Where should the Mosquito Slayer be located?
The Mosquito Slayer should be located between you and the mosquitoes, and ideally, the Mosquito Slayer should be located upwind of the mosquitos. Here are a few more details. If you need more information on how to best locate your Mosquito Slayer, please contact us.
TopHow is the Mosquito Slayer mounted for use?
The Mosquito Slayer can be placed, fixed, or hung, on any external object, wall, veranda post, freestanding post, tree or ceiling in the area to be protected.
TopDoes it work in the rain? wind?
No, The Mosquito Slayer does not work in heavy rain — it doesn't have to. Mosquitoes, black flies, and other biting insect do not feed during rain periods, nor when there are strong winds.
TopHow often should I service my Mosquito Slayer?
There are three things that need periodic attention on the Mosquito Slayer. The octenol cartridge should be effective for 3-4 weeks. The Lactic Lure needs to be replenished as required. It will evaporate more quickly if the Mosquito Slayer is in direct sun or if you live in a particulry hot climate.
Release of CO2 is controlled by the Master's built-in programmable computer, so how long a tank of gas lasts will depend on the program. In typical use, the Master will be programmed to release gas for several hours at dawn and dusk, about 5 hours per day. At that rate, a 20 lb (9 kg) tank should last about a month. See the CO2 usage chart for details.
Octenol is a fragrance, and you might be able to detect it if you hold the cartridge right up to your nose. Otherwise, no part of the Mosquito Slayer gives off a smell detectable by humans. Unlike repellents, coils and candles, only biting insects can smell the lures of The Mosquito Slayer.
TopDo I have to turn it on and off each day?
No, The Mosquito Slayer includes a specially designed, programmable timer. This timer automatically controls the release of carbon dioxide and can be programmed with multiple on/off times in advance. As well as being completely waterproof, this timer has a battery that allows it to operate for three months without being connected to a power supply. What's more, even if there is a power blackout, the timer will not require resetting.
TopHow much does it cost to operate?
This will vary slightly from place to place. The monthly operation costs include the purchase of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas (uses only 52 grams per hour) and the rental or purchase of the gas tank from a gas supply company. We will be happy to assist you in locating a CO2 supplier. The octenol cartridge must be replaced every 3-4 weeks. A 2-litre bottle of Lactic Lure will be adequate for an entire season or longer in most places. The UV tube will need to be replaced every 3 months. All high end mosquito traps have parts that need replacing and use various consumables.
How do I know when it has run out of gas?
A standard 20 lb CO2 tank should last about 150 hours. In most settings, the Mosquito Slayer should be on for about 5 hours per day, which means that a tank will last for about a month. Each time the Mosquito Slayer releases a pulse of CO2, it makes a sound that sounds pretty much like you would expect gas being released to sound. When the CO2 tank is empty, you will hear a click in place of the gas-being-released sound.
TopIs it completely safe for humans, animals and the environment?
The Mosquito Slayer process does not involve fogging, pesticides, bug zappers, repellents, citronella, coils or candles. Fogging, repellents, and coils, often involve the use of chemicals that have the potential to be dangerous for both humans and the environment. The Mosquito Slayer, on the other hand, uses none of these chemicals or electrification methods in the control of insect populations. In fact, carbon dioxide, lactic acid and octenol are all produced by humans and animals. No external contact with the Mosquito Slayer can harm humans or pets. It is completely safe to touch, move and switch on and off, though we do recommend that you leave any internal contact, other than replacement of the UV tube, to your service technician.
